Welcome to the site of my University Teaching Portfolio, which concludes my University Teaching Qualification training (UTQ). I am Mihály Balogh (ORCiD; Google Scholar; LinkedIn), an assistant professor with an education profile at the University of Groningen, Groningen Research Institute of Pharmacy, Molecular Pharmacology Group (Faculty of Science and Engineering).
My greatest passion is introducing my students to the concept of evidence-based medicine. I am currently teaching pharmacokinetics and pharmacology for future pharmacists. These are among the most challenging subjects to learn, but I believe one of the most interesting ones as well, not to mention their tremendous usefulness and practicality. It is always a pleasure to see how students discover the practicality of the subject, as they start forming pharmacotherapies on their own, based on our case-by-case studies.
My Portfolio showcases my approach and goals relating to university teaching via the Pharmacy Bachelor's course Pharmacokinetics (PK). The main goal of this course is to make students understand how different drugs behave in our bodies and describe that with the help of mathematical models. By building on that they become able to create proper dosing regimens for patients and solve typical kinetic issues in the clinical- or community pharmacy setting. By the end of the course, they realize how directly pharmacology and pharmacokinetics affect all of our lives, and what invaluable assets they are in everyday clinical practice. My hope is that - thanks to this realization - they become more and more fond of the subject as well.
The 3 main parts of the Portfolio are Teaching, Designing, and Assessing, which are all existing of various written assignments. The Teaching Module also contains a short video, showing excerpts from one of my PK lectures. Below you may read my vision on teaching (also part of the Teaching Module) and my Action Plan (prepared during the process of the University Teaching Qualification) in addition to my Final Reflection on the different parts of this Portfolio and the UTQ process. At the bottom of the page, you can find the students' evaluations of my PK lectures.
Action plan - prepared at the very beginning of the UTQ program to define personal aims as learning outcomes
Final reflection - prepared at the end as the closing document for the UTQ program, reflecting on the personal aims
