About

The Minor Future Planet Innovation (FPI) is an educational programme centered on sustainability, hosted by the Rudolf Agricola School for Sustainable Development at the University of Groningen. FPI brings a multidisciplinary, engaging and interactive exploration of sustainability across various scales and perspectives. FPI is a full-time university minor aimed at third year academic bachelor students, open to participation for students from all backgrounds at the University of Groningen.

Technology innovation by itself is insufficient for the global challenge of meaningful sustainability; of equal importance are non-technical aspects such as society, economy, nature, policy. Since sustainability is an inherently multidisciplinary topic, the diversity of participating student’s backgrounds is an excellent match with the challenges at hand. In the first half of FPI, diverse educational activities create a common ground, a mutual understanding, and opportunities for in-depth exploration of topics of particular interest. The second half of FPI is centered around client-based projects: real questions from real companies or organizations for which the students are tasked to put their (diverse) expertise to work to formulate an answer/advice.

The FPI "Sustainable Future" symposium marks the closure of this academic year's iteration of the FPI Minor, and includes showcasing the proceedings of the program and the student's findings from the project work.
