Augmenting human and machine argumentation
Argumentation theory aims to develop tools and reflections that help to improve critical discussion, and make it more reasonable. Since ancient times the focus has been on human argumentation, aiming to uncover its mechanics. Now that the field of artificial intelligence has produced chatbots that happily discuss any reasonable topic (`Sure! Here are my thoughts.'), while the generated text can contain weird mistakes, the question arises what argumentation theory can do for the improvement of machine argumentation, and make it more reasonable. The talk addresses the role of arguments, scenarios and probabilities in AI and argumentation, what we can learn from arguing about images, and how humans and machines can collaborate in a hybrid argumentation dialogue.
