We are a team of three passionate honours students — Sidney, Chulumanco, and Songezwa — who believe that global health equity is not only necessary but achievable. Our project explores the structural roots of health inequality and offers actionable solutions rooted in justice, research, and compassion.
🎯 Our Mission
To raise awareness about the structural roots of global health inequality and explore practical solutions such as tackling illicit financial flows, advocating for debt repudiations, and calling for reparations. Through this project, we hope to inspire both reflection and action.
💡 Why We Chose This Topic
Health inequality isn’t just a matter of who gets sick and who doesn’t — it’s about whose lives are valued. We were drawn to this topic because it speaks to larger patterns of global injustice. Inspired by thinkers like Paul Farmer, Amartya Sen, and Michael Marmot, we wanted to investigate the root causes of these inequalities and use data to tell a compelling story.
“The idea that some lives matter less is the root of all that’s wrong with the world.” — Paul Farmer
🧩 Our Team Contributions
🧠 Sidney – Data designer & co-video producer. Sidney was the backbone of all things visual — creating clear, impactful graphs and helping edit the final video content.
📚 Chulumanco – Lead researcher. With a knack for critical reading and analysis, Chulumanco ensured that every claim was backed by credible sources and that the briefing paper met academic standards.
🖥️ Songezwa – Web designer & narrator. Songezwa organized the layout, authored key website and paper content, and narrated the group’s video presentation.
Our teamwork was grounded in trust, collaboration, and a shared purpose.
🎬 Behind the Scenes
We spent hours:
Fact-checking research and referencing scholars.
Discussing ideas late at night in group chats.
Redrafting the paper (more than we’d like to admit).
Learning to use Google Sites and video tools creatively.
Though we don't have a group photo, the illustration below captures our collaborative energy 🌟
🌍 Student Reflection: Why This Project Mattered to Us
“Working on this project made us realize just how deep and far-reaching global health inequality is. Behind the numbers are real lives — people without access to basic care, children dying from preventable diseases, and entire regions left behind. Researching issues like illicit financial flows and health workforce shortages opened our eyes to how structural injustice plays out in everyday health outcomes. We now understand that global health is not just a medical issue, but a moral one — and we feel more committed than ever to advocating for change.”
