RTS Parents' Newsletter 25 February 2022

Head Teacher's Message

I hope that you all enjoyed a restful half-term break and stayed safe from the storm, wherever you were.

Thank you to those Year 9 parents/carers who were able to remotely attend their Subject Teacher Consultation meetings on Wednesday afternoon/evening. I hope that you found these conversations informative. We look forward to students submitting their final options choices in advance of the GCSE Option deadline on Wednesday 02 March.

It has been a busy end to the week with a large number of Year 11 students attending a GCSE Poetry Live event in central London. It is such an exciting opportunity for them and with poets such as Carol Ann Duffy and Grace Nicols appearing, I wish I could have attended with them!

Next week we await with excitement for National Offers Day on Tuesday 01 March and we look forward to beginning our Transition programme with the new cohort of students due to join us in September 2022! The first event in the diary is a New Intake Evening on Monday 07 March where we will look forward to welcoming all of those children planning to join us in September - it would be great to see some familiar faces as I am sure that we will have many more siblings joining us here at RTS.

Ms K Dooley

LFD Testing

Further to the government publishing its Living with Covid Plan on 21 February, the DfE is no longer supplying schools with LFD Tests as twice weekly asymptomatic testing is no longer advised.

As a school the safety of our school community is still of prime concern and, if your child feels unwell at anytime with symptoms of COVID 19, as with any other illness, we would kindly ask that you refrain from sending your child into school.

Remember that if you need to order either an LFD or a PCR test, full advice on how to order can be found at this link.

RTS Art Gallery

This week we have taken in the Year 11 art sketchbooks to complete the first round of marking for GCSE. Here is a glimpse of the wonderful work the students have been doing! Which one is your favourite?

ILZ 3 - NEW ARRIVALS FEBRUARY

Be Internet Safe Day

As promised, we have more to share on Year 9's amazing Be Internet Safe Day last half term. We had a great team of facilitators who helped students discuss and understand the issues that arise in the online space. At the end of the day, students from the different groups presented back to the whole year group. A selection of photographs give a flavour of the day.

RTS Sport

Congratulations to this incredible group of girls below on winning the U15 Borough Girls Touch Rugby Tournament! The team were undefeated and conceded just 1 try throughout. An incredible achievement and one that they should be very proud of - we certainly are! Thank you to Waldegrave School for hosting and to Richmond FC for their support.

Before half-term the Year 7 girls took part in an inter-house rugby tournament. They may be friends outside of their house groups - but on the field, their house loyalty shown through! Congratulations to Madiba for their win!

More rugby achievements - with 45 students representing RTS at Richmond Rugby on Saturday 12 February. A huge thank you to Richmond Community rugby for all they have done to support rugby this year.

And finally, on Tuesday 22 February, Year 7 boys took part in the Year 7 Boys Rugby Festival at Richmond Rugby FC. They showed great effort in making it all the way to the final, but despite their best endeavours, they lost to a strong Orleans Park Team. Great sportsmanship and teamwork from all of the boys who took part.

COVID 19 Vaccination Pop Up Centre at RTS

You may be aware that schools in the local borough have, over the last few weeks, been hosting COVID 19 Vaccination Pop Up clinics at the weekend. These clinics are open to children aged 12-15 years old and 16-17 years old across the local area to receive their COVID 19 Vaccinations.

On Saturday 05 March 2022 RTS will be hosting the next Pop Up clinic for the NHS Immunisation Team. The attached flyer details the event and includes a booking link.

The flyer contains a ‘clickable link’ for booking an appointment - Parents will be able to book an appointment online or call the team on 0208 614 5306.

Please note that RTS is NOT organising or involved in the administration of bookings or vaccinations - we are purely making the building available to the Hounslow & Richmond Community Healthcare NHS team to use as a Pop Up Clinic for the public.

We are therefore not able to answer any questions about the clinic, eligibility, or booking. Please speak to the NHS team on the number above if you have any queries.

Thank you for your support
