Employed by Franklin Memorial Hospital for over 20 years.
I’m contracted to cover approximately 15 hours weekly for each school, including coverage for Home contests, after school practices and some away contests if the schedule allows. I am split between Mt. Abram and Spruce Mountain high schools and each school should get as even coverage as possible. I do travel with the Spruce Mountain varsity football team to all away contests.
My job at the school:
The evaluation, treatment, prevention and education of athletic injuries that take place during competition for the respective school. It could be said that I am the Gatekeeper or Triage for the athletes. After Evaluation I determine:
· Severity of injury,
· Immediate treatment needed (by myself or a doctor, send to hospital via ambulance or with parent/guardian),
· If they can wait for a doctor until the next day,
· If I can treat the injury effectively without further evaluation by someone else.
*If an injury or accident occurs off school grounds, or is not athletic in nature and hinders athletic performance, I need to suggest that the athlete is evaluated by a doctor before they return to athletic activity.
EXPECTATION: When an athlete is evaluated by a doctor (family or other), that athlete cannot continue to participate until a note from a doctor is received specifying to me what the athlete can and cannot do. (Includes: colds, flu, suspected Mono, injury, concussion, etc.) Please bring a note the first available day and give to the Athletic Director, Athletic Trainer or Team Coach. It is our intent to have a copy with each for continuation of care.
