Envirothon

Envirothon is North America's largest environmental science competition.

Participants learn about soils, forestry, aquatic ecology, and soils, as well as a yearly current issue.

Envirothon is implemented at the state level in Maine by the Maine Association of Conservation Districts.

Envirothon is "place based". Students use science skills to explore their state, hometown, and backyard.

Envirothon curricula and objectives are aligned with the Maine Learning Results, which were revised in April of 2019 to align with the Next Generation Science Standards. To learn more about Maine's Science Standards, visit: https://www.maine.gov/doe/learning/content/scienceandtech/standards

Envirothon materials are easily adapted for regular classroom use. Particpation in Envirothon, while highly motivating to students, is not essential for implementing Envirothon materials in the classroom.

Envirothon's use of a problem scenario for student's to solve is a highly effective teaching tool that engages students in content, motivates them to learn about the world around them, and helps them develop critical skills in research and public speaking.
