Our Culture & Identity
This document exists to clearly express who we are, who we strive to become, and the standards we uphold as a basketball program. We recognize that perfection is unattainable, but each day we commit to improvement, growth, and championship-level habits—on and off the court.
Our Mission
Our culture is built on a mission: to create and sustain championship-level success not just in basketball, but in life. Every team wants to win—but not every team is willing to honor the work that winning demands. Real success lies in respecting and mastering the process. To win big, we must first win small. We commit to getting 1% better every single day—by the end of the season, this adds up to a transformation that separates us from the rest.
Throughout this document, you will find key terms in bold. These words are foundational to our identity, and we will refer to them regularly in our program.
Our Core Values
Appreciation
We view every opportunity as a gift. Entitlement is the enemy of growth. We actively monitor our Appreciation to Entitlement Ratio. When you truly appreciate something, you value it—and you make the most of it.
Citizenship
We are leaders and contributors in our community. We aim to be active, engaged, and dependable citizens beyond the court.
Enthusiasm
True enthusiasm isn’t reserved for when things are going well. We choose to be enthusiastic about our process, our habits, and our goals. With enthusiasm comes EGBs—Energy Generating Behaviors—high fives, chest bumps, floor slaps—small actions that lift team spirit.
We strive to be Energy Givers, not Energy Takers.
Energy Givers:
Positive
Encouraging
Solutions-oriented
Own failures
Provide feedback
Uplift teammates
Act out of courage
Energy Takers:
Negative
Discouraging
Complain and blame
Avoid accountability
Act out of fear
Competitiveness
We define it simply: aggressively pursuing greatness. True competitors separate themselves by the intensity of their desire and their commitment to doing what others won’t.
Team-Ship
We fully align ourselves with the team’s goals. We’re not here to play as individuals—we’re here to win together. We seek players who can get over themselves for the good of the team.
Accountability
There are three layers of accountability:
Coach to Player – foundational.
Self Accountability – elite players hold themselves to the highest standards.
Player to Player – the standard of greatness. We emphasize this level the most, always with respect and positivity.
Value
We value relationships, teamwork, and trust. We work to build strong bonds that foster collective success. We will always choose unity over ego.
How We Act, Interact, and Respond
Act: Show pride in all you do. You represent your team, your family, and your community.
Interact: Communicate with respect—speak positively, look one another in the eye, and listen with intent.
Respond: Control your response. Mistakes happen—missed shots, bad calls, loud fans. Our response to adversity will define our season.
Key Concepts
Lost in the Fight
When we are lost in the fight, we are fully absorbed in the mission—free of distractions, doubts, and negativity. We block out what we can’t control and give ourselves completely to the pursuit of excellence.
Domino
A Domino creates positive momentum. One player's energy, effort, or leadership can ignite the rest of the team. Ask yourself daily: How do I make the guys around me better?
Win Anyway
Regardless of the challenges—who we're playing, how we’re shooting, or what’s going wrong—we find a way to win. That is the "Win Anyway" mindset.
Leadership Expectations
All players are expected to embrace leadership. Leadership is not about titles—it’s about impact.
Great leaders:
Focus on helping others grow
Create the right conditions for success
Let go of the illusion of control
Promote a positive, energetic environment
Foster genuine relationships
Prioritize the team over themselves
