RSU57 offers a variety of special education services, supportive services, and placements to meet the needs of students with disabilities and with different learning styles. We also provide a free and appropriate public education for each student. The services offered by the district include placements in regular education classes, resource classes, and self-contained classes.

Special education programs and services in the RSU57 district are designed to meet the needs of students with various learning needs and educate students in the least restrictive environment. The main purpose of special education is to develop the mental, physical, social, and emotional abilities of children and youth to enable them to function successfully in the educational setting and make a successful transition into the adult world.

Special education programs require parent(s) and/or guardians to participate in making decisions regarding the individually designed educational program for their child.
