The following policies explain how we select books and materials for our library. In particular, we look for books that:
Support student achievement of the content standards of the system of Learning Results
Support the goals and objectives of RSU 40’s educational programs
Enrich and support the curriculum
Take into consideration the varied interests, abilities, ages, and maturity levels of the students served
Foster respect and appreciation for cultural diversity and varied opinions, and enhance students’ capacity for critical analysis
Stimulate growth in factual knowledge, literary appreciation, aesthetic values, ethical standards, and critical analysis
Provide a balanced representation of the contributions of diverse groups and individuals to our American and global heritage
Provide information that will enable students to make informed decisions in their daily lives
Be accurate and current
Reflect high quality scholarship and presentation
Represent significant authors/composers and works from diverse groups
Be accessible by individuals with disabilities
Be affordable
