The only place within our limitless universe that we are SURE that life exists is right here on Earth! There is a lot to learn, and still a lot to be discovered, about the mysteries of life! In seventh grade science, our focus will be to learn about living things. We will study the fascinating things that happen in ecosystems around the world and right here at home. You will learn how to identify and classify living things based on their unique characteristics. Microscopes will give you a window into the fascinating world of cells, and you will build a cell model to help you to learn about the important functions that cells perform in living things. In our study of genetics, you'll learn how DNA works as a complex code to determine your unique traits. And in our last unit, we'll explore how - and why - life has changed over the 4.6 billion years that Earth has been a planet!
Throughout the year, you will also practice skills used by scientists, like asking questions and defining problems, developing and using models to help you understand abstract concepts, and planning and carrying out investigations. You will collect, analyze, and interpret data, and use evidence gathered to support a claim. Math skills will be used, too, because math helps us to analyze and display data!
