Stepping up to the High School
In preparation for the 8th grade transition to the high school, students will have the opportunity to participate in their own course registration. In March, the high school guidance counselors will visit the middle school to review the course registration process with all 8th graders. Students will come home with a pink form complete with the academic course recommendations made by their current teachers and will be asked to select their electives, obtain parent signatures, and return the form to MMS guidance for our signatures. This will give you an opportunity to discuss course recommendations with 8th grade teachers during March conferences.
Also in early March, the high school will host an 8th grade parent informational session. All students and families are encouraged to attend. Please contact us if you have any questions about this exciting process!
Towards the end of May, the students will attend Step-Up Day, when they will visit the high school to participate in a mini rotation of their 9th grade schedule. Students will eat lunch here at the middle school and then head over to the high school for the afternoon until dismissal. They will go home from the high school, either via bus transportation or parent pick up.
