What’s Mrs. Lathrop’s favorite thing about teaching? Connecting with her incredible students over dad jokes (she may even try to crack one herself!), her love of Thai food, and scary movies. When she’s not enjoying science type things on her own (nature adventures or paranormal activities, anyone?), she enjoys spending time with her kids, but she mostly enjoys the quiet of her fur family (2 dogs named Bear and Kali and 2 cats named Bruin and Rory)—Sorry, Natalie! She loves all the amazing things that science and technology bring to her life, but beware of virtual reality activities around Mrs. Lathrop…they make her sick.

Mrs. Rourke (ELA)

Mrs. Rourke has been dazzling—or at the very least, educating—young minds with her literary prowess for many years. Before becoming a teacher at Marshwood Middle School, she actually roamed these very halls as an incredibly awkward adolescent herself. It was the early 2000s. Times were tough. Eyebrows were thin. Jeans were dangerously low. Emo boy bands were thriving.

Since surviving adolescence, Mrs. Rourke has traveled the globe in search of adventure, good stories, and snacks. These days, she continues adventuring with the people she loves, but with better fashion choices and considerably more sunscreen.

When she isn’t convincing students that yes, symbolism actually does matter, Mrs. Rourke can usually be found hanging out with her husband, Trevor, and kids, Ryan and Annika; hiking through the wilderness; losing herself in a novel; taking a ridiculously long nap; or committing to a Netflix binge.

A creative human with an insatiable curiosity about people and ideas, Mrs. Rourke loves psychology, philosophy, conversations that go slightly too deep, and questions without one right answer...which is probably why she became an English teacher in the first place.

Side Note: She also might accept bribes in the form of chocolate chip oatmeal cookies. Probably not, but you should still try.

My name is Mr. Mwingira. I have been an educator and a coach for 7 years. Prior to Marshwood Middle School, I taught at Laconia High School (NH), Noble High School, and Noble Middle School. I became a father last year, so outside of school most of my time is dedicated to my son, and it has been such a blessing to enjoy this most recent summer with him. I enjoy lifting weights, coaching sports, playing guitar/piano, and disc golf in my free time outside of school. I was in the Army for 6 years, and I have traveled to Tanzania, Kenya, the Netherlands, Canada, Puerto Rico, Switzerland, Germany, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia. I look forward to teaching our students not only about our country but the world around us. It is a privilege to be a teacher in the Marshwood School District, and I could not be any more excited to join for my first year!

Hi! I’m Ms. Capone, and I’m excited to be part of the 8th grade team! You can find me upstairs in Room 218! :)

A little about me: I’m originally from Massachusetts, but the beautiful Seacoast brought me to Maine four years ago! Summer is definitely my favorite season. Outside of school, I love spending time with family and friends, traveling, going to the beach, and being outside. I also love coffee, trying new restaurants, and all things New England sports—especially the Patriots! 

Fun fact: I’m an identical twin, and my twin is also a teacher!

Along with you, I am a proud member of the 8 Purple team! I am excited to be working with many of my students from last year and to reconnect with students whom I had during their 6th-grade year. Outside of school, I enjoy being with my family, lifting weights, basketball, etc.

My favorite thing is being a dad to my kids. You may see us shooting hoops, riding bikes, hiking, or paddleboarding. My goals are to help every student navigate the world and to learn the importance of physical activity for physical and mental health. Every student has value and a purpose. I hope to be one of the parts to help you find that path.

My name is Mr. Taylor. I’m so excited to be back in the Marshwood community as your band teacher. When I’m not teaching, I enjoy practicing my instrument, drinking coffee, spending time with friends and family, and being outside. I’m a drummer and spend my free time playing gigs. Even if you're not in Band, stop by the band room to say hi, and we can talk about music. Looking forward to a great year!
