Scholarship FAQs:
What is a scholarship?
A scholarship is a financial award to help a student further their education that is not required to be paid back
Merit-based scholarships are awarded to students based on their achievement in academics, extracurricular activities, and leadership in their community
Need-based scholarships are awarded to students based on a student's ability to pay for college
Many scholarships are both merit-based and need-based
How many scholarships can I apply for?
As many as you are eligible for! Scholarships are awarded independently - applying for multiple does not decrease your chance of winning a scholarship.
How do I receive my scholarship funds?
The majority of scholarships are paid directly to the college that you indicate you will be attending.
I don't plan on attending a four-year school. Are there still scholarships for me?
Yes! Some private and federal scholarship programs are specifically designed to fund two-year college or trade program students.
Scholarship Tips:
It is recommended that you create a separate email address to use with scholarship websites to avoid advertisements and spam
Start early!
Stay organized - keep track of scholarship deadlines and application materials
Follow instructions and proofread your applications before submitting
Most scholarships have spring deadlines (March, April, May)
You should never pay for a scholarship. If you are being asked to, it may be a scam!
