Seminar Requirements
We are grateful to the many community members, professors, and organizations that have volunteered their time and energy to present seminars for our students.
Seminar Requirements
Students must participate in nine Honors Diploma seminars.
Participation includes attending a seminar, being an active participant at the seminar, and writing a brief reflection (one page single-spaced or two pages double-spaced) on the seminar.
Students may use a combination of "internal" seminars (those arranged by the Honors Diploma Program) and "external" seminars (those found/arranged by the student). Students may use up to two "external" seminars toward the requirement.
Pre-approval of external seminars is strongly recommended. External seminars should be similar to our program seminars (a formally arranged presentation by an expert in a field, at least one hour in length, aimed at an adult audience). Examples are a university lecture or a special guest presentation hosted by a community organization. Non-examples would be a routine talk, a field trip, or a guest speaker in a class.
The Honors Diploma Program will offer four-five seminars per year. Additionally, non-seniors may use the Senior Exhibition Fair as a seminar each year (attend, participate in discussion, write a reflection).
All seminar reflection papers are due within two weeks of the actual seminar date.
Seminar reflection papers should be shared with Mrs. Gardner through your high school Google account. All internal seminars will have a reflection assignment posted on Google Classroom.
