About Me

I've been interested in education for as long as I can remember. I live with my husband Joel, our daughter Ellie, dog Jack, and three cats Winston, Freya, and Kenobi.

I recently earned my Master's of Education in Instructional Technology and am Highly Qualified to teach Middle School Social Studies, Middle School Math and Special Education K-12 and hold an Apple Teacher certificate as well as Google for Education Certifications Level I & II, and am a Google Certified Coach.

I attended the University of Maine at Orono for both my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education with a Minor in Music and later, my Master's of Education in Instructional Technology. Prior to my graduation in 2006, I began working at the school I did my student teaching with a position as a cheering coach. This got my foot in the door and when a position opened for a 1:1 behavioral ed tech position, I moved from student teacher/coach to ed tech/coach. At the end of the school year, I was ready to find a teaching position.

I found that position at Kidspeace New England's Residential School in Ellsworth. I credit my creative behavioral problem solving with the two years I spent teaching all subjects to the middle level students and the time I spent working on the Residences.

I accepted a position at Mount Desert Island High School (my alma mater) in 2008 and began teaching Special Education and case management for the Life Skills Program- students with severe developmental needs. I also served as the advisor for the SADD group.

I decided to teach at the one age level I didn't yet have experience and began teaching K-4 Special Education at the Peninsula School in Prospect Harbor. At the end of the 2010-2011 school year, a position opened up within the school for an additional middle level teacher, focusing on Social Studies. As a member of the middle level team, I began administering the MLTI program in addition to my teaching responsibilities. I also began a program called Take a Vet to School day, were local Veterans arrive at the school, eat a luncheon provided by the community and share their stories with our students.

I moved to the IT Department in the summer of 2020 and now am a Tech Integrator with RSU24, working with all four K-8 schools and our high school to provide support and training to teachers and students in a technology-intensive learning environment.

I'm thankful for the opportunities I've had to teach across the grades and to now support my fellow educators as we transition to a new era in education.
