Immunization Exemptions
Immunization Update
In accordance with LD 798 An Act To Protect Maine Children and Students from Preventable Diseases by Repealing Certain Exemptions from the Laws Governing Immunization Requirements ,as of September 1, 2021 philosophical and religious immunization exemptions are not longer accepted*. Students attending public school in the state of Maine must submit either documentation that immunization requirements for school entry have been met or documentation of a medical exemption. If your child does not meet the immunization requirements and does not qualify for a medical exemption your child must receive the required vaccines or they your child not be allowed to attend school until the requirements have been met.
*Only students who have an Active IEP as of September 1, 2021 AND documentation of an existing religious or philosophical exemption may continue to attend school under that exemption*
Medical Exemptions
Medical exemption documentation must include the RSU21 Medical Immunization Exemption Form completed by the parent/guardian AND
documentation from a Maine licensed healthcare provider stating that the specific vaccine is medically contraindicated.

IEP Exemptions
Only apply to indivdiauls with an active IEP as of September 1, 2021 and existing documentation of a religious or philosophical exemption.
Please complete the RSU 21 IEP Immunization Exemption Form and submit this to the school nurse.
Immunization exemption documentation must be updated and submitted anually prior to your child attending school.
Written Assurance/Attestation to Immunize
Students who do not meet the immunization requirements for school entry upon registration will be required to provide written assurance that thier child will be immunized by private effort within 90 days of registering or first attendance in classes.

This is a one time provision and does not apply to individuals who have had a previous attestation or temporary medical exemption OR those students will not be able to meet the immunization requirements within the 90 day period. These students would need to meet all immunization requirements or submit documentation of medical exemption in order to attend school.
