In our classroom, we will live and learn by the WELCOME method.
When you
Enter this room
Learning is fun and
Cooperation is expected.
Our positive attitude and
Mutual respect are part of
Everything we do and say.
Our class will be driven by positive participation and will be an environment that encourages effort and multiple voices. Everyone has an equal say at the table. All negative behaviors that discourage this environment will face the following consequences:
1st offense: Warning and conversation with teacher
2nd offense: Call home or email depending on the severity
3rd offense: Referral to Mr. Putnam or Ms. Dilworth
10% Preparedness & Engagement
30%- Formative Assessments
60%- Summative Assessments (essays, quizzes, large projects)
I will never discuss grades via email. I will never discuss grades during class time. I am ALWAYS happy to discuss your work and grades during a scheduled appointment while you are in school or via Google Meet. I truly respect when students take pride in their grades and want to look for ways to improve their work. However, your grades deserve more respect than a quick email, or conversation in the middle of an activity. Come visit and we will work something out. I love to discuss! That is why I became a teacher!
Summative assignments will not be accepted after the due date and no extensions will be granted for homework or formative assignments that were assigned for a class period. I do not assign extensive homework or reading, but in order to be a prepared and productive classmate, you must come to class with your homework complete. No excuses!
No late work will be accepted after the conclusion of a unit, regardless of previously agreed upon extensions. Once a unit comes to a close, all late work must be submitted by the day of the summative.
I am a firm believer in second chances. Your work can always improve, and I want to give you that opportunity! When you enter our classroom, you will receive a fresh start each day. However, revision of a summative assignment is not allowed if the work is handed in late and/or does not show best effort the first time.
As always, come talk to me if an issue arises. I can't get you the help you need, unless you let me know!
Per the school policy, cell phones are to be turned off and stored away by the beginning of class
When you enter the room, your phone should be turned off and placed in your designated slot. Your phone will remain there for the entire class.
Failure to follow cell phone procedure will result in confiscation of device, notification of parents, and/or a trip to the office.
For our 80 minute block together, I will give you my full and undivided attention. I expect the same in return. This means that earbuds should not be worn during instructional time and Chromebooks should be used for instructional purposes during class time. If we are not working on Chromebooks, then your Chromebook should be closed and stored away.
