Wildcat's Garden

Values Statement:

The Wildcats School and Community Garden will serve to nourish students’ bodies and minds, build and strengthen connections with the community, provide opportunities for exploration and reflection, and deepen their understanding of the world around them.

It's a big dill!

The second graders did a five-station seed saving. This picture is of two of the students at the dill station!

We give a hoop!

Superintendent, Mike Hammer, helped us add the final anchor to our hoop house.

The fourth grade students helped stabilize the frame of the hoop house prior to putting the plastic over the top.

Breaking New Ground

Students busted sod to create garden beds for perrenial herbs and pollinators.

This student is putting sod into a wheelbarrow to be added to the compost pile.

Ain't No Brocco-Lie!

On December 2nd, we did a school wide taste test of broccoli. The students graphed whether they tried it, tried it and liked it, or opted not to try it. You can see from our chart that broccoli was a hit!

It's a dirty job, but somebody has to do it!

Mrs. Talbot's Second Grade Class had some fun in the hoop house preparing the raised beds for planting!

We can't wait to see what grows!

Ready, Set, Rototill!

In preparation for spring 2022 planting, Mrs. Donahue rototilled the soil in the garden at SVES.

When life gives you pumpkins, make book characters!

In the spring of 2021, we planted pumpkin seeds in our freshly tilled and fertilized garden plot at SVES. In the fall, we harvested enough pumpkins to give one to every classroom! The students were then charged with the task of decorating their pumpkin like a beloved book character. The results were GOURDGEOUS!

Let's Get Growing!!!!

In the fall of 2020, SVES added a greenhouse to our school grounds in hopes that students will be able to engage with plants year round.
