Team Beckett

November 14th 2024
3rd grade went on a field trip to he Orono Bog and Bangor City Forest. We learned so much about Bog ecosystems and got the chance to explore different features of deciduous forests.

Mrs. Frost's Kindergarten class harvested our rainbow carrots for the cafeteria!

October Golden Seed Award

Our 3rd graders are learning all about Ash Trees!

In the next coming weeks we will learn all about the Emerald Ash Borer and how we can help protect our ash trees.

We identified 5 White Ash trees right outside of our school.

Mrs. Lynch's class started our October seed activity by harvesting some of our GIANT sunflowers!

What is the Golden Seed Award?

The Golden Seed award is an award that was started at the Etna-Dixmont School. It is an

award that is given by specials teachers. We wanted to bring this idea to every school to

reward good behavior and teamwork throughout the district. We are using this as a

monthly award at each school. It is an opportunity for students to work together to receive

an award for their classroom.

RSU 19 Common Ground Entries

Common Ground Country Fair Exhibition Hall 2024

Sebasticook Valley Elementary School entered 4 amazing crops into the fair this year. We hope to continue this tradition for future fairs.

Our Anise Hyssop placed 1st in the herb category!

Our Sage won 2nd place!

Our Basil got 3rd place!

Judges loved our Onions, unfortunately they didn't place.

It's a big dill!

The second graders did a five-station seed saving. This picture is of two of the students at the dill station!

We give a hoop!

Superintendent, Mike Hammer, helped us add the final anchor to our hoop house.

The fourth grade students helped stabilize the frame of the hoop house prior to putting the plastic over the top.

Breaking New Ground

Students busted sod to create garden beds for perrenial herbs and pollinators.

This student is putting sod into a wheelbarrow to be added to the compost pile.

Ain't No Brocco-Lie!

On December 2nd, we did a school wide taste test of broccoli.  The students graphed whether they tried it, tried it and liked it, or opted not to try it.  You can see from our chart that broccoli was a hit!

It's a dirty job, but somebody has to do it!

Mrs. Talbot's Second Grade Class had some fun in the hoop house preparing the raised beds for planting!

We can't wait to see what grows!

Ready, Set, Rototill!

In preparation for spring 2022 planting, Mrs. Donahue rototilled the soil in the garden at SVES.

When life gives you pumpkins, make book characters!

In the spring of 2021, we planted pumpkin seeds in our freshly tilled and fertilized garden plot at SVES.  In the fall, we harvested enough pumpkins to give one to every classroom!  The students were then charged with the task of decorating their pumpkin like a beloved book character.  The results were GOURDGEOUS!
