Definition

The purpose of this extended internship is to allow students multiple opportunities to cultivate and refine workplace skills (punctuality, dependability, cooperation, initiative, attitude, and appearance) in a career connected to their goals. This type of internship will span either a semester or a full year and be offered as an alternative pathway for earning academic credit and demonstrating proficiency within the Career and Education Department for students. While there may be an opportunity for paid work, learning is the primary focus of this internship.

Vision

The Macro-Internship, coordinated by the Career Education Department, provides students an extended opportunity to connect their career goals with their education. The macro-internship strives to enhance the partnership between the school and community by serving the needs of local business and industry, while at the same time cultivating the confidence, responsibility, and maturity necessary for success on the job among our students.

Phase 1: Initial Application

• Determine your area of interest for a possible internship;
• Review your Individual Graduation Plan (IGP);
• Meet with your guidance counselor to determine schedule options;
• Explain what you hope to gain from this experience.

Phase 2: Internship Proposal

• Determine the internship site that is best suited to your needs and interests;
• Initiate communication with prospective internship site;
• Set goals for the internship.

Phase 3: Internship Experience

• Log activities and reflect on experiences;
• Get feedback from the internship site supervisor;
• Present final reflections, take-aways, next steps to internship coordinator
