Google Classroom is used by all teachers at WHS to post assignments and communicate with students by giving feedback and posting grades. I have come up with a list of commonly asked questions from parents about Google Classroom. Please reach out if you have a question that is not answered below.

Google Classroom for Parents
Google Classroom is an online platform that allows teachers and students to communicate, exchange assignments, and provide feedback. It's important to note that Google Classroom is different from Google Meet and Google Hangouts, which are used for virtual class meetings.
When students log in, they can view upcoming assignments, teacher announcements, important class information, and student questions. They can also submit their work directly through Google Classroom. Teachers can then provide feedback, assign grades, and send back the work. All of the student's work is stored on Google Drive, which keeps everything organized. The assignments are automatically added to the Google Calendar based on their due dates.
How Can Parents Stay Up-to-Date with Google Classroom?
Instead of constantly asking your child to view their class, parents can be added as a student guardian. To do this, ask your child's teacher to grant you access. Once approved, you can choose between receiving daily or weekly guardian summaries. These emails will provide information on missing work, upcoming assignments, and classroom activity.
How Can Parents Receive Email Summaries for Google Classroom?
To receive email summaries for your child's Google Classroom, parents need to email the teacher to request access. While a Google account isn't necessary to receive summaries, it's recommended to create one to manage the frequency of summaries. You can create a Google account without a Gmail account by clicking on this link: https://accounts.google.com/signup.
It's important to note that parents can receive summaries of their student's activities, but it's recommended that they also sit with their student to view their activities from the student view on the school-issued Laptop. This will provide a more complete picture of what's happening, including missing work and upcoming assignments.
Can You Use Google Classroom at Home?
Yes. Students can access Google Classroom from anywhere, including their phones, when they download the Google Classroom app.
Can Parents Communicate with Their Child's Teacher through Google Classroom?
If your child's teacher uses Google Classroom for communication, they can send you an invitation. After accepting, you will receive updates directly from them, which may include information on upcoming or missing work and announcements.
Can Parents Check Their Child's Grades on Google Classroom?
Your child's grades are posted in Infinite Campus, although teachers can assign grades using the Classroom service Gradebook.
How Do Kids Find Out About New Stuff Posted in Google Classroom?
When a teacher posts an announcement, your child will receive an email notification. These emails will come through your child's email account, not in Classroom. Classroom doesn't alert you when an assignment is due, so students need to check the class calendar or emails. Students can manage their own notification settings, so check with your child to see what notification settings they have enabled.
How Tech-Savvy Do Parents Need to Be to Help Their Kids with Google Classroom?
It also helps to know how the programs work so you can at least describe the problem to a teacher if anything goes wrong. Older kids may not need any help. Google Classroom is designed to be easy to use, and there's lots of online help.
Does Google Classroom Track and Collect Kids' Data?
While Google Classroom is part of the G Suite for Education, which is protected by stricter privacy rules that forbid Google from tracking and collecting student data beyond what's necessary for educational purposes, services such as YouTube and Maps may collect data on those apps as it would for any of its other consumer apps.
Can Kids Use a Mobile Device or Tablet to Access Google Classroom?
Yes. Like all the other Google apps available, your student can access the full functionality of Google Classroom from virtually any device. Just be sure to add the other essential Google apps needed for success to their devices, like Google Calendar, Google Docs, and Google Drive.
As of right now, all AI Chatbots (ChatGPT, Google Bard, Claude) all require students to be 18 and over or have a signed release form to allow use of a Chatbot and the resources that go along with them. These resources are being shown to teachers as an introduction but not to be used with students. Here are some of the AI Chatbots to play around with. They all have a free version.
