Dike Newell School Library
“If you don’t like to read, you haven’t found the right book.”
-J.K Rowling
Welcome to the Dike Newell School Library. My name is Lisa Hardman and I am the librarian for the Dike Newell School. I am a certified school library media specialist with a Master of Library and Information Science degree from the University of South Carolina. In addition to a love of reading, which I hope to pass on to my students, I enjoy history, genealogy, theater, hiking and love animals, especially cats! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns that you might have: lhardman@rsu1.org
Lending Policies
Pre-K students select a free book to keep each week thanks to the generosity of book donations from community members. Pre-K students are encouraged to practice book care and it is hoped having these materials to add to their home libraries will spark a love of books and reading.
Kindergarten students check out one book each week. Books remain at school as students learn about book care and being responsible for keeping track of their library book.
First grade students check out one book per week and may bring their books home.
Second grade students may check out two books per week.
Hours of Operation
In addition to coming to the library for their class's weekly visit, students may visit the library before school to exchange or return books. They may also visit at the end of the day on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. The library offers many special activities such as STEAM Club, Acting Club, Bee-Bots and Lego Club. Students may sign up for these activities through their classroom teacher. Be sure to check the News section of the library's website to see what fun things are going on!
