I attended Armstrong-Ringsted High School (1983) and went to Iowa Lakes C.C. for two years before attending Iowa State University. I graduated with a degree in business in 1989. That year I married Margaret McCann of Council Bluffs, who I met in Ames. We lived in the Council Bluffs/Omaha area for three years. During that time I worked for the Council Bluffs school system and Children's Square U.S.A., where I was a youth life educator. In 1992, we moved to Granville and I took a job at Spalding Catholic where I worked for 21 years until it closed in 2013. At Spalding Catholic I taught American history, World history, government, economics with an emphasis on personal finance, sociology, geography, history seminar, world issues and 7th grade religion. I coached girls track (21 years), boys track (8 years), cross country (20 years), head boys basketball (14 years), assistant boys basketball (1 year), head girls basketball (11 years) [five of those seasons as both head boys and girls coach including the last season 2012/13], and two years as mock trial and quiz bowl moderator.
I am a single dad of five great kids; Alexandra (1993) SC (2012) and the University of Iowa (2016), Erik (1995) RSM (2014) and Iowa State University (2018), Paige (1998) RSM (2017) and the University of Iowa, Ashley (2001) RSM (2020) and Ryan (2004) RSM. I have enjoyed teaching at Remsen St. Mary's since 2013/14. My teaching and coaching duties mirror my earlier experiences at Spalding Catholic. Remsen St. Mary's is a great place because it is a nurturing positive Catholic environment and provides a strong sense of family that strives for growth and achievement on personal, academic and athletic levels.
