Mrs. Amanda Haverstick

I'm Amanda Haverstick. This is my 8th year teaching. I taught at Woerther Elementary for two years as a fourth and third grade teacher. I then came to Babler and taught second grade for two years. I then moved to fourth grade and taught that for three years. I'm so excited to join Kellison and Bowles to help readers. I love teaching and it runs in my blood! My mom and Grandma were both teachers. I have my undergraduate degree in elementary education as well as a minor in developmental reading. I have also completed my Masters Degree to be a reading specialist and am working on adding more graduate hours to my name.

I live with my husband, Dan, my son, Miles, and my dog, Louie. Louie is a Weimaraner who loves to be outside and go for walks. Miles joined our family at the end of March in 2018. We love spending time watching him learn and grow. Our family enjoys going for walks and working in the garden. Louie likes to try and snuggle in our hammock as I'm trying to read (I try to read every Mark Twain Award Nominee each summer).

I cannot wait to learn about your child's interests and talents. If you need anything this year, please don't hesitate to email, call, or send me a note. A great home and school partnership is essential to success!

This is my sixth year as a RI teacher at Kellison and I’m so happy to be here! Before coming to Kellison, I taught reading at Stanton Elementary. I also taught for 5 years as a classroom teacher at Wild Horse Elementary. Before teaching for Rockwood, I was a resource teacher in Special School District, teaching kindergarten-fifth grade. I have my undergraduate degree from Purdue University in elementary education with a minor in special education. I completed my masters degree in special reading from Webster University.

My family consists of my husband and my two children. I often tell students that my husband, Dave, helps keep the lights on during a storm because he works for Ameren MO. I have two children. My daughter, Taryn, is a freshman at Lafayette High School. My son, Christopher, is in 8th grade at Crestview Middle School. You can often find me at dance competition or a mountain bike race. In my free time, I love to to read, play games with my family, hike and travel!

I am so excited to be working with your child! I look forward to helping him/her learn to read or improve their reading. I will be working with your child on a daily basis. We will be working on reading and writing skills. We will focus on strategies that will enable him/her to become a better reader and writer.

I will be communicating with your regularly about your child’s reading progress through email. With us working together, your child will learn more and improve faster!
