Former Wildcat and Her Volleyball Team Break World Record

On August 30th, 92,003 people gathered in Memorial Stadium to see a college volleyball game. This is the largest attendance record for any women's sport, which is huge in of itself but what's even more exciting is that a former Wildcat was on the winning team!

Mia Berg, a former LSMS student and Eureka graduate, and her team had no idea that they had set a World Record beforehand. "Going in, we did not know we would set the world record. We knew Memorial Stadium was sold out, but we didn't know who all would actually show up," Mia says, "The record was 91,989, so thinking about topping that was crazy, but we did it!"

When we asked her about her team she said, "My team is always so competitive that we never want to lose. Going into the game, we knew it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience which made the level of competitiveness even higher. "

After they had achieved this, their celebration was cut short. "It was such a cool experience and to say I was part of it is a lifetime memory. However, we flew out to Utah at 6 a.m. the next day for a tournament...  we had to mentally prepare for our next opponents."

To be a part of a World Record is an amazing experience very few of us can say we took part in, "Personally," Mia says, "I never really thought I would be part of a World Record. I knew Nebraska had a love for volleyball, but I didn't know it was this crazy. I am so grateful I got to be a part of history doing something I love."
