The HKIMS library media center strives to create an environment that engages students in rigorous, real-world inquiry and project-based learning. Respect, responsibility, perseverance, kindness and acceptance are the core values and guiding principles that lead expectations and behaviors. Students critically think, research, and acquire 21st century competencies in conjunction with  becoming digitally literate citizens in a global society.

Students are able to check out three books at a time. Books checked out for Wit and Wisdom do not count toward their three books. Each book can be kept for 3 weeks at a time, with the option to renew if needed. It is at the discretion of Mrs. Honious or Mrs. Lucey if new books, or books in high-demand, can be renewed. Books must be physically present in the library in order to be renewed. Wit and Wisdom titles can be kept through the entirety of the module and do not need to be returned/renewed after three weeks. 

Damages/Lost Books

If a book is not returned on time, the student will receive a reminder to promptly return their book. There is no fine for late fees, but students will be billed to replace the book if the book is lost. After three reminders (email and/or reminder slip), the student will be billed for the replacement cost of the lost book. Books are expected to be returned in the condition they were in at check out. Students will be charged to replace a book for damages such as water damage, defaced books, torn/folded pages, broken spines, etc.
