Volleyball Policies

Reedsburg Volleyball

Philosophy, Policies & Expectations

Philosophy

The philosophy of our volleyball program is to develop athletes who understand the importance of fundamentals, hard work, perseverance, teamwork, overcoming adversity, self-motivation, humility, and sportsmanship. As coaches we will emphasize that volleyball is merely an extension of the classroom. We will be supportive and active in promoting academic and athletic achievement. As for winning, the “wins” will take care of themselves if attention is focused on  the qualities mentioned above.

General Conduct

As an athlete, you will be observed by members of our community, students/staff in our district, and members of our opponent’s community. Your conduct should be such that it brings credit to yourself, your family, school, team, and community. Reedsburg volleyball players will be expected to exemplify good sportsmanship at all times with respect to teammates, opponents, officials, coaches, and all school personnel. Whether in victory, or defeat, conduct yourself in a respectful manner.

Practice Expectations

Practice time is valuable and every minute should be used to the greatest advantage of the team. Practice without improvement is meaningless! Attendance at all practices and meetings is mandatory, unless prior consent is given by your coach. If an athlete has 2 unexcused absences they must meet with the coaching staff and may be let go from the team.

1. Be on time! Be on the court ready for practice at the designated time.

2. Work Hard! Practice is designed to to help you, individually, and your team.

3. If you miss a practice prior to a match,  you will need to meet with your coach.

Unexcused Absences:

1. Work -  You’ve made a commitment to your team! Work should not conflict with  practices/matches.

2. Non-Medical/Clinical Appointments - Examples: Hair, Nail, Tanning appointments.

3. Inability to arrange a ride home

Excused Absences:

1. Medical/Clinical Appointments - Please schedule these around practice/matches, if

possible. You must bring an appointment card or note from the doctor’s office to give

to your coach upon your return

2. Family Emergency Situations - Written note from parent.

Bus Trips

On bus trips all athletes are expected to exhibit appropriate behavior. The bus leaves at the designated time given on the schedule. All team members are required to ride to and from the matches. You will only be allowed to ride home from matches with your parents if you turn in a travel release form to your coach before we depart for the match. It must be filled out completely and signed by your parents and Mr. May (Activities Director). In support of our volleyball program, we ask that the JV2 and JV athletes stay and support the varsity team in their match. We are all One Team and your presence and support is important! If an athlete needs to leave before the completion of the varsity match (assuming they have turned in a travel release form), they must check out with their coach prior to leaving.

Daily Attendance/Study Habits

Athletes must attend a full day of classes in order to participate in a school-sponsored, extra-curricular event/practice. Exceptions include school-sponsored trips, family emergencies, medical, dental or clinical appointments.

Each athlete needs to understand the primary reason for being in school - academics. Therefore proper study time must be set aside to accomplish the utmost from your academics. An ineligible player cannot help our team!

Uniforms/ Equipment

Athletes are responsible for the care of any uniform and/or equipment issued to them throughout the volleyball season. If it is lost, damaged, or not turned in at the end of the season, the athlete will be expected to pay for the uniform and/or equipment. No end-of -the-season awards will be given until your uniform and/or equipment is returned in good condition, or fees are paid.

Court Time/ Communication

NOTE - Athletes at the high school level do not always receive equal playing time.

JV2 - All eligible athletes will receive playing time during a match. It may not be equal.

JV - More specific in regards to position play. Court time may be more limited.

Varsity - This is the culmination of the volleyball program. This is very specific in regards to position play.

Court time is determined by skill level, execution/performance, and position play.

At times communication is necessary to clarify items pertaining to the volleyball program. If  questions or concerns comes up please refer to the following information:

1.  The first line of communication must be between the athlete and the coach.

2.  Athlete, parent, and coach(es). A time can be arranged before or after practice.
