The Beginning Band is your first step as a member of the Mountain View Middle School Band. Students in the Beginning Band will learn to play their instrument in a small-group setting by instructors who specialize in Wind, Brass, and Percussion instruments collectively. Students will learn how to properly assemble, hold and play their instruments in a fun and challenging course designed to teach all of the skills necessary to perform concerts for your family and friends! 

The Cadet Band is for any 6th grade student who successfully completed the 5th grade Band Program while in elementary school. Students in the Cadet Band are unique in that they are entering middle school with a year of experience in Band and as a result, will have more opportunities at the middle school level.   Students will continue their journey in band by further developing their instrumental skills and musical concepts and will also have the opportunity to join the Jazz Band and/or Pep Band as incoming 6th graders. 

The Concert Band is our next step after completing Beginning Band or Cadet Band. The Concert Band is designed to emphasize continued development in areas such as technique, tone, and music literacy. The Concert Band curriculum is an extension of the skills and concepts studied during the Beginning and Cadet Band experience.

The Symphonic Band is our most advanced ensemble designed to emphasize individual development in areas such as technique, tone and music literacy through challenging curriculum that consists of upper middle school and high school level music literature. 

Jazz Band is an instrumental club designed to study and perform styles of jazz music, this includes swing, latin, rock etc. Membership in the Symphonic, Concert or Cadet Band is required for wind instruments and percussion. Bass, piano, and electric guitar will be auditioned from non-band members if no band members are available to play them Bass and guitar players need to have their instrument and be able to read chord figures and written music without tabs. This is a performance-based club. Regular attendance is required. Students enrolled in Jazz Band should expect to attend mandatory performances as well.
