About Ms. Tiesi:

I hold a level 3 teaching license and this is my 8th year teaching music. I have a Bachelor's degree in Music Education with certifications from the Gordon Institute for Music Learning in Elementary General Music, Instrumental Music, and Early Childhood, as well as certifications in both Kodály and Orff Pedagogies. I studied voice in college but I also play the clarinet, ukulele, and a little piano. Before becoming a music teacher, I earned a BA in Spanish and an MA in Latin American Studies. My husband and I have been married for 14 years and we have a daughter in 4thgrade. When I'm not teaching, you can find me hanging out with my family. I love arts and crafts, cooking delicious food, playing video games, solving puzzles, reading, making music (duh!), and learning new things. I strive to pass along that love of learning to all my students as we explore music together.

Teaching Practices:

Music Learning Theory, or MLT, informs and guides my teaching practices. Based on the research of Edwin G. Gordon, MLT is a collection of ideas that explain how children learn music. There are several important aspects to Music Learning Theory. Click this link to my "About Music Learning Theory" page to learn more about Audiation, MLT, and becoming a more musical human.

Below is a brief performance I gave with some other music teachers at a certification course in 2019. We put this together to demonstrate what students can do with sequential music learning. Enjoy!
