MLK offers a comprehensive school counseling program that offers a variety of proactive and responsive services based on student needs.
Classroom lessons: All students receive lessons on topics such as social skills, self-regulation, academic success skills, and career opportunities.
Small groups: Small group counseling is offered throughout the year for students who would benefit from extra practice in a variety of skills. We are also available for mediations and conflict resolution between 2 or more students.
Individual counseling: School counselors practice brief, solution-focused counseling. We will work with students 1:1 for 1-6 sessions as needed, with the goal of providing support or boosting skills in order for students to be successful at school. If more support is required, we will work with families to connect them to community resources and/or GE Social Work. We do not provide therapy in our role as school counselors.
Student Support: We are available to students who need someone to talk to while at school. Teachers and caregivers can refer students to see us, and students can refer themselves as well.
Family Support: We can support families by connecting them to community resources for mental health as well as food, clothing, etc.
