Paying for college can seem like a daunting task. Money for college can come from many sources: grants (free money that you don't have to pay back), student loans (borrowed money that needs to be paid back), scholarships, work study (on campus job), and family contribution (what you and your family can pay). Don't get overwhelmed by the process. Follow these steps and see your counselor if you get stuck :
Complete your FAFSA. FAFSA stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid. It must be completed online at studentaid.gov studentaid.gov with both the student's and parents' information. Need assistance? The New Mexico Education Assistance Foundation offers virtual FAFSA help every Monday from 3:00-6:00 starting October 10th. More information and the Zoom link go to https://www.nmeaf.org/money-mondays. The college student aid office can also help. FAFSA application open every October 1st for the next school year. FAFSA gives you information about what funding you may qualify for including grants, work study, or loans.
Apply for scholarships. The first place to look for scholarships is through the college you are applying to. The second place is a free scholarship search like Go Merry. The third place is our Google Classroom page. If you need any help, please see Ms. Cook.
