A Well Rounded Student

Senior Lily Ryan is a pro at staying involved with the school, while also maintaining a remarkable academic transcript. She is involved with cheerleading for the basketball team, football team, and competition squads. She is also a member of River’s Edge and takes honors math and English classes. In addition, Ryan has a job working at Fresco. Despite her extremely busy schedule, Ryan still manages to do it all with a big smile on her face.

Cheerleading takes up a large part of Ryan’s time. Not only is she on all of the squads that RRHS offers, but she is also the captain of the Basketball Cheerleaders. Her favorite season is football season.

“I like being outside, and I like when the weather’s not too hot, not too cold. I don’t know, I just like the environment better [when cheering],” Ryan said. She has been cheering for Rocky River since fifth grade. Ryan enjoys different aspects of cheerleading.

“[I like] the people because you become such good friends with everyone, and you make these relationships that you probably wouldn’t have made if you didn’t participate in the same activity as them,” Ryan said. Ryan’s twin sister, Julia Ryan, is also a cheerleader at RRHS.

“Everyone thinks that siblings have to fight all the time, but me and my twin sister are pretty close, so it’s fun having her [on the team],” Ryan said. Ryan thinks that her Cheerleading career will come to an end when she graduates high school. She plans on attending the Ohio State University and will use her extra time to study, do her homework, and try other activities.

“[My favorite part is] when we do festivals and competitions and get to meet the other show choirs and perform and interact with them,” Ryan said. River’s Edge is also an activity that Ryan takes part in and enjoys. “[River’s Edge is] basically Glee; it’s like show choir. It’s singing and dancing,” Ryan said. She began River’s Edge as a sophomore, and has stuck with it until her senior year.

“It’s been really hard [to juggle everything] especially this year because I just got a job. Just having all the practices and the homework, it’s hard, but at the end of the day it’s all worth it,” Ryan said.

“I would be just as involved, if not more. I might have maybe done like a club or two,” Ryan said, stating what she would do if given the chance to do high school again.

It is remarkable that Ryan is able to maintain her classes, while simultaneously being an engaged and involved member of the RRHS community.
