WELCOME TO THE RHHS SAILING CLUB WEB PAGE

The Rocky River High School Sailing Team sails through The Cleveland Foundry. We train with several other area high schools. On any given weekend we are competing with teams from high schools across the Midwest.

Who?

Anyone in grade 7-12, whether an experienced sailor OR new to sailing. If you’re new to sailing, Fall is a great time to start when the water is warm!

When?

Seasons:

· Fall: Late-August through October

· Winter: Conditioning and Chalk Talks at The Foundry

· Spring: Mid-March through May

You can sail in both Fall and Spring or just one season.

Practices: 3 days a week, 4-7pm

Experienced sailors typically practice Tuesday and Thursday.

Less experienced sailors typically practice Monday and Wednesday.

The entire team practices on Friday.

Our coaches at The Foundry will determine which practices are best for a given sailor.

Races/Regattas:

We compete approximately 6-7 weekends per season. They are held on Saturdays and/or Sundays. The Foundry hosts several regattas each season and we travel to Columbus, Detroit, and a few other areas several times a season.

Where?

The Foundry’s sailing center is located in the Historic Coast Guard Station on Whiskey Island. Transportation to/from practice is the responsibility of each sailor/family. Some families may choose to arrange carpooling.

How do I join?

Register via The Cleveland Foundry’s website AND email Joel Rathbun (joel@joelrathbun.com; 440-714-5320).

Interested sailors can also contact student sailors Buck Rathbun ‘24 or Jacob Myers ‘24.

Fees:

Each sailor pays a participation fee per season to The Cleveland Foundry. (See link for latest information on registering.)

In addition, the Rocky River Sailing Team collects dues of $25 per season.
