School Hours
Our learning begins at 9:05, but students may enter the classroom at 8:55. First grade goes to lunch and recess from 12:05-12:50 daily. Our school day ends at 3:20.
Transportation
Most students at Goldwood take the bus to and from school. Occasionally, parents may need to pick up their children early or at the end of our school day. If there is a change in your child's normal transportation, it is important for your child to know before coming to school if he/she will be taking the bus home or will be picked up by a parent or a friend. Please always write a note or send an email if your child will not be taking the bus home.
You may want to let me know via email about the change in transportation. Please consider I am teaching most of the day and may not be able to check my email until lunch or at the end of the day and might not find out about the change in time for dismissal. I STRONGLY encourage you to also contact the office if your child’s transportation will change. Please call the office and/or email. The office phone # is 440-356-6720. Please email the office: Kate DeMarco at demarco.kate@rrcs.org and Susie Hill at hill.susan@rrcs.org .
Supplies
Here is a link to our supply list. Please do not send additional supplies because our desks are not big enough and we are working on organizing a desk for the first time! You may want to get some extra pencils, erasers, dry erase markers, and crayons to keep at home until needed at school, as these items receive the most wear throughout the school year.
Snacks
Children will eat a daily morning snack. Please make sure a healthy snack is sent to school daily. Establish a routine with your child as to where their snack is: lunchbox or backpack. Some suggestions: vegetables, fruit, yogurt, applesauce, raisins, pretzels, cheese and crackers. Please send snacks that your child can open on their own. Snacks must be peanut-free. (Peanut products are allowed at lunchtime.) Please do not send chips or dessert foods.
Lunch
There is no hot lunch service at Goldwood, which means your child must bring his/her lunch every day. Peanut products are allowed at lunchtime. Milk and juice are available for purchase (paid online).
Birthdays
Your child is welcome to celebrate his/her birthday at school. We will enjoy singing “Happy Birthday” to your child. No food treats are allowed at school. If your child wants to bring a “prize” for the class, please send in a non-food item. Some suggestions are: a pencil, toy car, Play-dough, sidewalk chalk, sticker... (Sending in something to celebrate your child’s birthday is optional.) Students should not pass out party invitations at school unless the entire class or all boys/girls are invited. For students who celebrate birthdays in the summer, we will have an "un-birthday" celebration. As we approach the end of the school year, I will assign those students with an "un-birthday" date. We will celebrate the summer birthdays of our classmates.
Conferences
Parent/teacher conferences are held in November. Additional conferences may be scheduled by contacting me. Report cards are sent home electronically each quarter through your child’s Progress Book account.
Classroom Volunteers
We will be going on several field trips this year. As field trip dates approach, I will reach out to parents with an email asking if anyone is available to volunteer.
