Communication between parents, students, and teachers is essential for student success. We can be reached via email at the addresses below. We will make every effort to respond to you promptly. In addition, we encourage you to have your students check their email regularly to keep up to date on important announcements.

Assignments:
Students are expected to use their planbook daily to write down their assignments for all classes. This assures that parents are kept notified of upcoming tests, quizzes, assignments, and any other special announcements. In addition, a homework agenda is posted on our Clever classroom for students to access at home as needed. There are no planbook signatures required in 5th grade.
Grades:
This year, your child will receive letter grades for the first time. Our traditional grading scale is as follows:
A+ (98-100%) B+ (87-89%) C+ (77-79%) D+ (67-69%) F (below 60%)
A (93-97%) B (83-86%) C (73-76%) D (63-66%)
A- (90-92%) B- (80-82%) C- (70-72%) D- (60-62%)
Grades will be regularly updated on our online platform, PowerSchool, where you can track your child’s progress throughout the quarter. With numerous assignments being graded, please remember that a single grade does not define the entire quarter's performance. We encourage students to frequently check PowerSchool for missing assignments and to take responsibility for communicating with their teachers about any issues. This approach helps foster independence and accountability in their academic journey.
Homework/Homework Policy:
Homework is necessary to allow students to practice the skills learned in class at home. Students should expect a brief homework assignment daily. There will be assigned reading at home to build vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. Homework assignments will be part of the overall grade and checked at the start of each class. Late homework is not eligible for full credit.
Classroom Management:
Students are expected to maintain mature, respectful behavior. Our classes operate based on mutual respect. While we ask that all students respect their teachers and each other, we also in turn respect them and their individual differences. It is our goal to establish a positive learning environment. In order to do so, we will be implementing the “BUGS” coupon system: Being Unusually Good Students. Students who set a positive example in class will receive a “BUG” coupon to exchange for a reward on team days. Team days are at the end of each quarter that includes a classroom celebration and raffle prizes.
Start & Dismissal times:
Please do your best to get your son/daughter to school on time. Kensington student drop-off should occur at the Falmouth or Kensington Drive doors between 8:00 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. This allows them time to get organized and ready for the start of class. Students will have morning work to complete during homeroom time. Being on time also minimizes disruption and helps create an environment conducive to learning for all students. School Hours: 8:30am-2:45pm
