This course designed to combine students with special needs with their general educated peers. The objective is to promote social inclusion through intentionally planned and implemented activities in a physical education setting. The General Education students who elect to take this course would have the opportunity to engage with, mentor and model socially acceptable behaviors for students with special needs.
Academy Physical Education B0911AS 1 quarter .5 credit
Students will participate in a variety of PE units that will encompass both the team sport and personal fitness aspect. The students will be expected to conduct themselves in a manner that is appropriate and respectful (Hellison Model of Responsibility). Students will also engage in activities such as problem solving and fitness testing programs. Health Education topics covered include: decision-making and communication skills, physical fitness/body image, nutrition, alcohol, tobacco, and other drug education, sexuality education, HIV/AIDS prevention, friendship and dating issues, violence prevention, and coping skills.
Physical Education 10 B0910QS 1 quarter .5 credit
All 10th grade students will learn about the components of fitness and how it correlates to a healthy lifestyle. Students will learn fitness vocabulary and concepts through classroom activities and traditional fitness activities in the field house and fitness room. Students will also engage in activities such as problem solving and fitness testing programs.
Competitive Team Sports 1 quarter .5 credit
In this course, students will participate in several team sports which include; soccer, basketball, street hockey, volleyball, flag football, kickball and others. Students will be taught the rules of each sport, equipment needed, skills needed, and how to be a productive member of a team to reach a desired outcome. Students will also be taught proper fair play and sportsmanship regardless of the outcome.
Lifetime Activities 1 quarter .5 credit
In this course, students will participate in sports and activities which may maintain their interests throughout their lifetime. Activities will include; walking, fitness, badminton, pickle ball, tennis, bocce, and other leisurely activities. Students will learn the benefits of an active lifestyle as well as enjoy a variety of low key activities that maintain fitness and keep students engaged in movement.
Health 10: Developing Health Skills B007991QC 1 quarter .5 credit
This course is designed for tenth grade students to continue to explore and develop their personal health skills and health topics important to teens, building from their middle school health education experiences. Health topics and concepts explored may include and are not limited to; Health Risk Factors, Stress Management, Nutrition, Substance Use/Abuse, Consent, Relationships and Reproductive Health. These topics and concepts explored will also be done so through a skills-based approach, where students will have the opportunities to develop and improve upon their skills of interpersonal communication, decision-making, analyzing influences, accessing information, and advocacy.
Analyzing Current Health Trends B007992QC 1 quarter .5 credit
This course is available to eleventh and twelfth grade students interested in taking a deeper look at current health trends and influences within today’s society. Within this course students will be provided a variety of opportunities to explore and analyze the latest health issues facing teenagers. Throughout this course there will be a strong focus on Healthy Coping Skills, Mental Health and Substance Use Prevention. Additional topics may include but are not limited to, LGBTQ+ related topics, Nutrition, Body Image, Healthy Relationships, Relationship Abuse, and Reproductive Health. As part of the course students will select research topics, analyze the topic’s influences and its own impact on current teen and societal health, prepare and present information/activities to their peers in and/or out of the classroom setting. And, community resources and experts on various topics will be invited into the classroom to speak with the class when appropriate.

This course will combine course work with practical hands-on application to expose students to the field of health/fitness and athletic training. The focus is on prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of sports related injuries. Students will be introduced to anatomy and physiology, and emergency care. Through vocational/technical training, the program offers a student a unique opportunity to work directly under the supervision of an Athletic Trainer by the National Athletic Trainer’s Association. Students will learn the human musculature-skeletal system; will become first-aid and CPR certified.

This course is a weight training and fitness class for juniors and seniors. The emphasis of this course will be muscular strength/endurance, cardiovascular conditioning, flexibility and nutrition. The class activities will include, but are not limited to, weight training, running, poly-metrics, and a variety of flexibility exercises. This course provides students with opportunities to develop an individual desirable level of fitness, its concepts and the significance of lifestyle on one’s health and fitness. Students will have opportunities to acquire basic knowledge and skills in weight training that may be used in physical fitness pursuits, improve muscular strength and endurance, and enhance body image. There is also an educational component consisting of a brief history of weight training, basic human anatomy and physiology and current topics related to fitness and health.
