Be safe online - never share personal information

Post personal information, pictures, or videos designed to hurt or embarrass someone else.
Internet Filtering
District issued Chromebooks will be under the same Internet filtering rules at home that are in place in our schools as provided by the district.
The software used by the district provides protection against inappropriate web content that meets federal Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) requirements.
Any attempt to bypass the filter or visit unacceptable sites is considered a violation and will result in disciplinary action and the loss of the device.
Monitoring
All district owned Chromebooks are managed at the district level.
Student Responsibilities
The device is district property and all users must follow all district and school policies and procedures.
Acceptable Use Policy (do we still have this for students)
Students will abide by the Rapides Parish School Boards Student Code of Conduct policy
● Contact their school about any security issue they encounter.
● Monitor all activity on their personal account(s).
● Report email containing inappropriate or abusive language or questionable subject matter to a teacher or administrator.
Students should only use the device assigned to them and should not lend their device to others.
All Chromebooks are labeled with a district asset tag. These tags should not be removed.
Device and Screen Care
Chromebooks do not come with a protective case.
Carry the Chromebook with two hands and never with the screen open.
Do not eat or drink while using the Chromebook.
Labels or stickers may not be applied to the device.
Devices must not be left in a car or any unsupervised area.
Cables should be inserted and removed carefully to prevent damage.
Pressure applied to a screen can cause damage. Avoid leaning on top of the device or placing objects on top of the device.
Do not store any object, like a pencil, in the keyboard area. If the Chromebook is closed with an object on the keyboard, there is a strong possibility that the screen will crack.
Use a clean, soft cloth to clean the screen without any cleansers. Do not spray glass cleaner on the screen.
Open the Chromebook from the middle, not the sides, to prevent damage.
Damaged, Lost, or Stolen Devices
Families are responsible for returning the Chromebook in the condition at time of issue.
Families are not allowed to attempt to repair the Chromebook or to take the device to an individual or business for repair. All repairs will be performed by the Rapides Parish School Board.
Damaged Devices
Notify your child’s school for further steps and to receive a loaner.
If a Chromebook is determined by the technology department to be damaged through neglect or misuse, a loaner will not be issued.
Lost or Stolen Devices
Notify your child’s school for further steps.
A police report will be required to receive a replacement Chromebook.
If the technology assigned to your child is lost, stolen or damaged through negligence, vandalism, or failure to follow the proper care guidelines, then you are responsible for the cost of repair or replacement.
Chromebook Return
Chromebooks should be returned to the issuing school if the student
Leaves the district
Transfers to another school in the district
No longer needs the device
Graduates
Chromebooks should be returned to the school at the request of the school.
