The Rapides Alternative Positive Program for Students (R.A.P.P.S.) is the district’s program for alternative education provided to its students for a wide variety of reasons. Students assigned to R.A.P.P.S. for either disciplinary or transitional-placement must be approved by the Ruby W. Smith Child Welfare and Attendance Office, Mrs. Carlessa White, Director. Students who are temporarily placed at R.A.P.P.S. for IEP purposes must also be approved by the Director of Special Education, Mrs. Vickie Smith. Any placement beyond those of the aforementioned reasons require approval by the Superintendent of School, Mr. “Jeff” Powell. Regardless of the reason for enrollment, all students are expected to follow the rules and procedures of the program. All students, accompanied by their parent(s)/guardian(s), must attend an intake-meeting prior to attending classes. Those meetings are by appointment only and, in most cases, must be scheduled by a school administrator or District Director. R.A.P.P.S. offers education through a myriad of software applications and uses a hybrid approach to lower grade levels.
Our mission is to provide students an education with a holistic approach that focuses on academic-interventions, behavioral-supports, mental health needs, character-building, decision-making, and post-secondary transitions.
Students enroll in R.A.P.P.S. for the following reasons:
Expulsion
Long-term suspension (more than ten school days)
IEP Re-evaluations
Temporary Placements
Transitional Placements
All enrollments must be pre-approved by the Child Welfare and Attendance Office. Also, all students must be registered at a zoned-school before attending R.A.P.P.S.
