Course Description
English I is a comprehensive course in literature, composition, and language.
Literature: includes reading and analyzing a wide variety of literary styles and forms, including short stories, nonfiction, poetry, drama, speeches, and visual texts.
Composition: focuses on the writing process through responding to literature, creative writing, and connections to real-life situations, and problem-solving.
Language: targets usage, mechanics, and strategies for vocabulary development integrated into literature and composition components.
Students will also develop listening and speaking skills throughout the course.

Grading Policy
This class will adhere to the Rapides Parish grading scale:
A: 100% - 93%
B: 92% - 85%
C: 84% - 75%
D: 74% - 67%
F: 66% and below
Late work will be accepted, but students will lose points every day it’s late.
Major assignments must be made up or the student will receive a zero in the grade book.

Attendance
Showing up to school is critical for a student’s success in this class. Students are allowed no more than six unexcused absences per semester or a total of 12 absences for the entire school year.
