Welcome to the SNRPDP Secondary Science Website

Supporting the Nevada Academic Content Standards for Science (NVACSS) with targeted professional development focused on high-quality content, instructional strategies, and resources to increase student achievement.

In 2014, after several vetting processes, collective feedback from Nevada educators across the state, and overwhelming stakeholder support, the Nevada State Board of Education voted on the revised Nevada Academic Content Standards for Science (NVACSS) based on the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). This was a significant commitment to shift K-12 science and STEM education in Nevada to ensure that all students are college and career ready upon graduation.

The NVACSS/NGSS support the vision from A Framework for K-12 Science Education: Practices, Crosscutting Concepts, and Code Idea (NRC, 2012). This vision includes Nevada students applying scientific thinking, skills, and knowledge to expalining real-world phenomena and designing solutions to real-world problems: “[By] the end of 12th grade, all students have some appreciation of the beauty and wonder of science; possess sufficient knowledge of science and engineering to engage in public discussions on related issues; are careful consumers of scientific and technological information related to their everyday lives; are able to continue to learn about science outside school; and have the skills to enter careers of their choice, including (but not limited to) careers in science, engineering, and technology.

When content standards change, all facets of the educational system are impacted and must also change. This website is developed to support Nevada science educators with this shift to aligned curriculum, instructional materials, assessments, and professional development to meet the depth and rigor of the Nevada Academic Content Standards for Science based upon the Next Generation Science Standards. Pages contained within this site provide overviews, and vetted high-quality resources supporting the following components of the educational system:
