We will have snack time daily in our classroom. During this time, students are allowed to have a small, healthy snack that they bring from home. Some examples are: fruit, baby carrots, crackers, granola bars (not chocolate covered), etc. NO cookies, candy or chips for snack. Our snack time is only scheduled for 15 minutes in the afternoon so please keep that in mind when helping your child select their snack each day.
If snacks, or snack containers, need to be opened practice this with your child ahead of time. The more you practice opening packages at home, the easier it will get. I am always there to help but this is a skill students need to practice.
Students are required to have sneakers with them every day. We will be moving and grooving every day so need to have on sneakers. Along with our activities in the classroom, children must have sneakers for P.E. class and to be able to play on the playground equipment. Safety first!
Our class will have recess daily. We will spend time outside every day except in cases of extreme weather. Please make sure your child is dressed for the weather and wearing sneakers or other rubber soled, closed-toe shoes. Feel free to send in sneakers for play to be kept in their cubby, as well as a sweatshirt or sweater labeled with your child’s name for cool days (please make sure to indicate that these can be left at school). Recess is a time for children to work on social skills, problem-solving and other important life-skills.
Your child will be bringing home a purple folder that they will be using throughout the school year. Please put all notes, etc. that are to come to school in that folder. Your child will be putting papers and notes from school in that same folder to go home, and this is where all paper communication from the school will be for you. Please check the folder daily and be sure your child returns it to school each day.
All students at Roy-Hart elementary receive breakfast and lunch for free. Menus are sent home monthly and can also be found on the district website. There is other important information regarding food service on the website and in the RHES handbook.
Students may also choose to bring their own lunch from home. I would encourage putting your child's lunch and snack in separate containers. This will make it easier for them to distinguish what is for snack.
Birthdays are a time to celebrate! Your child is welcome to bring in a treat to share with the class. Treats must be store bought (nothing homemade). Your child is also welcome to bring in their favorite read aloud book to share with their friends. Summer birthdays will have a special celebration day in June.
Birthday invitations can only be handed out in school if the entire class is invited. This is a building policy (see the RHES handbook). Please consider participating in our class directory.
