Separate Sciences

Separate sciences offer students an opportunity to explore each of the three branches of the natural sciences to greater depth to gain greater insight into the world within and around us. They also provide a much stronger footing from which to set out to study science at and beyond A level.

In Year 8, students are identified who would make suitable candidates for the study of triple science and, during the options process are asked if they would like to take up the offer. Students should be on course to achieve a minimum GCSE grade of 6 and show a commitment to their classwork as well as home learning and independent study.

For the next three years, they will be taught each of the three sciences for three hours per fortnight by subject specialists wherever possible. This will lead to three separate GCSEs. Last year, Royal Liberty was above national average for all three of the separate sciences.
