I have collected Rubik's cubes for a number of years, in all shapes and sizes. I like solving them, but it can be frustrating if a cube remains unsolvable! I am also an avid Lego fan, so one weekend my Dad and I decided to combine my two favourite things. We had seen a video about using a Lego Mindstorm kit to solve the traditional 3x3x3 cube, so we set about to build our own. Scanning the colours is the biggest problem, because the inbuilt colour sensor is not accurate enough. The kit has motors for movement and a mini computer is the 'brains' of the kit. Although it doesn't always solve the puzzle, it always has a determined effort! Our record is 2 minutes 12 seconds. However, the world record is under 5 seconds. One day we hope to emulate that!
