A Chromebook is a portable device that runs Chrome OS as its operating system. They are used primarily while connected to the Internet with most applications and data residing "in the cloud". There is no software installed, no updates for programs. The Google Chrome browser updates automatically and regularly while you are on the Web. Since there is no software, the devices have nothing to load. The result is a super-fast connection to the Internet (8 seconds from powering up, 1 second from sleep mode on average).
