Welcome to the 2024-2025 indoor colorguard season!
So what is the indoor colorguard program (aka winterguard)? You can argue that it is very similar to the outdoor marching season, except the colorguard separates from the band during the winter/spring to perform a 3-4 minute show inside a gymnasium on a matted floor with the show theme on its background using various props, equipment, and one song. As you will see, the success of the program depends highly upon the families, performers, and staff working together!
Roxbury Winterguard provides training in dance, equipment and performance that encompasses a wide scope and allows everyone a chance of achieving their best. The winterguard program will showcase the talents of our colorguard members during the months of December through April. The group will travel and compete in events through MAIN (Mid-Atlantic Indoor Network). Practices will begin in December with competitions and performances on Saturdays throughout the season and will finish toward the end of April with MAIN Championships.
Hard-working students, dedicated staff members, involved and active parents, and a supportive administration and community all combine to make it possible for the winterguard program to offer an outstanding array of performance opportunities. Our students are expected to set and reach high goals for themselves and their program. In other words, we strive to be good and better ourselves in every way. Eventually, we can become the best version of ourselves.
About me
Hi, my name is Cindy Herrera and I am the colorguard director at Roxbury High School! I've been teaching during the marching season since 2020 and am so excited to finally bring back the indoor colorguard program. The program last ran in 2018, so being able to bring this back to our performers after a 5 year hiatus is worthwhile.
Just a little bit about me, I've been in colorguard for a little over a decade, specializing in dance, flag, rifle, and sabre. I started in 8th grade, participated all throughout my high school and college career; during which I had the opportunities to attend spin clinics, open houses, auditions, and/or participate in programs like Alter Ego Winterguard, Hawthorne Caballeros, Reading Buccaneers, and so much more.
Being able to teach students what it's like to perform your heart on the field, create a sense of community, learn valuable life skills, and more makes the saying "you never work a day in your life when you're having fun" truer than it already is.
