About

Rowland Badminton Club was established during the 2014-2015 school year by the founders Charlie Wu & Kobe Yamaminami to promote the sport of badminton, at both a recreational level and a competitive level. Our first few years were to get court time during lunch in the gym and to engage with both the student body and faculty. Our dream was to be able to bring back the badminton team.

During the year 2015-2016, the club was soon lead by the next president Thomas Mon and head treasurer Kobe Yamaminami. The goal was to conduct more tournaments and to get the student body and faculty involved. Such were the events as RHS Badminton Club vs RHS Faculty Game during lunch, and singles & doubles tournament after school.

Through a long process where the next presidents Shin Phan, Brooke Bui, Siyu Chen, Jackie Bernabe, & Megan Hsu have also made their mark by contributing much to the club, the RHS Badminton Team was soon revived in the year 2018-2019. With the return of coach Kobe Yamaminami that is alumnus of the Badminton Club of 2016, the first team after 14 years of inactivity has stepped forward. Through this year the first collab between the team and club was the RHS Alumni vs Rowland Badminton team. Some notable alumni that participated were coach Charleen Hsu, Linda Wang, and Diana Lan that were part of the CIF Champion team and League Champions of 1995 with Diana Lan winning the title in both Singles and Mixed.

In the year 2019-2020, coach Kevin Yu is introduced as the new head coach with the return of coach Kobe as assistant coach of the RHS Badminton Program. Through coach Kevin's experience we had won 3 pre-season games before the pandemic has caused the end of the season abruptly. Through this period we have introduced doing online activities with both the team and the club.

The year 2020-2021, both coach Kevin and Kobe return to coach the RHS Badminton team during the time of pandemic. Through many games, the RHS Badminton Team made it to the Open Division. This year the RHS Badminton team made it to Top 3-4 in California in badminton. We still established online meetings with both the team and club to have the participation going.

Today, we have countless members in our club and an established CIF winning team! Our club is led by our officers and advisor Mr. Hsiao while Coaches Kevin Yu and Kobe Yamaminami head our Varsity & JV teams.
