Layla Hijjawi’s quote, “so I think AOC’s support of bills like the Green New Deal is really inspiring to young people like me because it increasingly feels like politicians are wildly out of touch with issues that are going to affect the current youth the most. Just look at the average age of most politicians today, they tend to be middle-aged to older people and that basically means that they’re going to be out of the loop with young people’s concerns. BUT that just makes it super uplifting to see a young politician like AOC (whether you agree with her opinions/policies or not) engaging with younger people and focusing on issues that are going to affect us, especially since she’s relatively young herself! I personally am inspired by AOC, especially since I'm also a young woman of color with an interest in politics. And it’s great to see her unapologetically addressing issues like the ones you’ve listed with her own new solutions to these problems. I know she gets labeled as “radical” or “crazy” in the media, but once again I still think whether you agree with her or not, she’s starting conversations that need to be held rather than keeping these issues in the dark and leaving them as “taboo” problems that will literally never get addressed properly unless you have somebody like AOC willing to just throw ideas out there.
