CHEM 07490/07590 - General Aspects of Pharmacology
This is an introductory pharmacology course that covers pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, drug testing & development, pharmacogenomics, and many other topics. We focus heavily on primary research literature to explore fundamental pharmacological concepts.
CHEM 07348 - Biochemistry
This is an introductory biochemistry course that covers a broad array of topics but is designed to help you understand how the fundamental components of biology (proteins, lipids, nucleic acids) derive their structures and function from the properties of their chemical building blocks.
MCB 01334 - Medical Biochemistry
This is a 2nd-semester biochemistry course that covers a variety of biochemistry topics in greater detail than an intro course, with the specific goal of helping students understand the biochemical underpinnings of several different diseases. Topics include the pathophysiology of ion channelopathies, protein misfolding, metabolism defects, lipid processing defects, DNA repair, and more. Clinical cases are discussed relating to each topic.
CHEM 05450 - Seminar
This is a senior capstone course that challenges students to read and explain published peer-reviewed chemistry and biochemistry literature in a series of presentations and a final paper.
