Bonjour et bienvenue à la classe de français!
This is my 17th year teaching for RRISD and my 8th year at Westwood High School. This year, I will be teaching French 3/Advanced, French AP , French IB IV and French IB V/VI. Previously, I taught French and Exploratory Languages at Cedar Valley Middle School for nine years.
I was born in Vietnam, grew up in Paris and Fontainebleau, France, and also lived in Alberta, Canada, where I began teaching in 1993 and taught in French immersion schools at the middle and high school levels. I also worked as a curriculum specialist and online course writer for educational agencies. In my spare time, I am a freelance French linguist/interpreter and cultural consultant for international translation companies.
I completed a B.A. in Political Science/International Relations from the University of Calgary, a B.Ed. in French Immersion Education from the University of Alberta and a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Toronto.
I was honored to be named 2010-2011 Teacher of the Year at Cedar Valley Middle School and twice a Teacher of the Year finalist at Westwood High School. My training includes AP French (Advanced Placement) from the AP Summer Institute at Rice University and SMU, IB training, world language seminars and conventions by AATF (American Association of Teachers of French), TFLA (Texas Foreign Language Association) and ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages). I presented at the IB Global Conference in San Diego in July 2022 and at the AATF Convention in Trois-Rivières in Quebec in July 2023. I was also the LOTE/World Languages Department Chair at Cedar Valley Middle School (2009-2015) and I am on the school district LOTE/World Languages curriculum team. I am also the proud sponsor of la Société Honoraire de Français and was the Women's Lacrosse sponsor for three years at Westwood High School.
Travel is my passion and I have taken my students on fifteen independent trips, mostly to Europe and Canada. We had planned to go to Morocco in June 2020 to do volunteer work at a school, but had to cancel due to COVID-19.
Our family has lived in Austin since 2001. I have three amazing children who are all adults now. My daughters completed the IB programme at Westwood High School and my son graduated from Round Rock High School. Our family loves to travel all around the world, especially to Canada, Europe, Hawaii, the Cook Islands, Morocco and Kenya to visit our relatives and friends. I love to cook and taste dishes from around the world, hike the Canadian Rockies, watch international movies and read French literature and books about history and biographies.
I had an exciting summer traveling to Hawaii and the Cook Islands with family and friends, and to Quebec and Toronto for teacher conferences and PD. I hope you also had a great and restful summer.
Thank you for visiting my website! I look forward to meeting my students. We're going to have a great year in French class!
Au revoir et à bientôt! Go Wood!
